Support for Local Businesses

Trenton Downtown Association (TDA) is an advocate for business interests and property owners in downtown Trenton. TDA provides marketing and public relations services, partners with state and local government organizations and chambers of commerce, and promotes the best that downtown Trenton businesses have to offer.

We support local businesses by establishing grants and communicating information on ways to obtain funding. We also promote our local businesses on social media and through email marketing and maintain a directory of businesses on this website.

ABOUT TDA

Clean Team Program

TDA Ambassadors keep downtown Trenton clean and safe for residents, workers, businesses and visitors. They provide a variety of maintenance and beautification services throughout TDA’s Special Improvement District (SID).

Our Clean Team Program also includes the use of motor-driven litter removal equipment and power equipment designed to clean gum and other materials from the sidewalks. This operation takes place seven days per week. To place a finer detail on the magnitude of the work these individuals accomplish in a typical year, TDA Ambassadors collect more than 700,000 gallons of trash from downtown streets and remove more than 30,000 cubic feet of snow.

Business Start-Up Grant Fund

TDA’s Business Start-Up Grant Program intends to reduce the burden of start-up costs of opening a new business and reduce retail vacancies within the Downtown Trenton Special Improvement District.

The grant program will provide up to $5,000 per applicant for eligible start-up costs.

Entities eligible to apply for a Business Start-Up Grant include for-profit and nonprofit businesses opened within the last year and within the boundaries of the Downtown Trenton Special Improvement District. Eligible entities include businesses planning to open or who have already opened a physical location within the district. The grant program will provide up to $5,000 per applicant for eligible start-up costs.

Façade Improvement Grant Program

The Façade Improvement Grant Program is designed to help downtown businesses within the Special Improvement District upgrade and refurbish their commercial business façade.  The goal is to create a positive impact on the overall appearance of the business and the TDA District as a whole.

Funds are issued at the completion and final approval of the project.

Eligible recipients can receive funding of 75% of the total project cost, up to $5,000,
of any work done to a building in the Special Improvement District excluding certain restrictions. To apply, you must be a commercial or mixed use property owner or tenant within the boundaries of the Special Improvement District. Improvements must adhere to the applicable zoning guidelines.

Façade applications may be expedited on an emergency basis following criminal activity, vandalism or other incidents resulting in damage to the business or property.

All applicants must complete the application form below. Only completed applications will be considered for funding.  Contact TDA for more information.

Supplemental Police Program

TDA's pilot Supplemental Police Program, in conjunction with the City of Trenton Police Department, provides safety and security services. Through the program, additional support and security are provided within the boundaries of TDA's Special Improvement District, including increased enforcement and quality-of-life concerns. Outreach to businesses is provided as well.

This program is one of many designed to support our community and make downtown Trenton a desirable location for business owners, an engaging center for workers and visitors, and a good place to live.

Contact TDA to learn more about the program.

Parking in Trenton

Parking in Trenton is readily available during nights and weekends. During business hours, Trenton has some of the most affordable garage and metered rates compared to other cities. The City of Trenton has recently partnered with the mobile parking app Flowbird to give drivers the ability to pay for parking, either digitally using their mobile devices or at the many kiosk locations. The app is now available to all residents and visitors on both iOS and Google Play marketplaces. For more information about parking, contact the City of Trenton.

The Trenton Parking Authority (TPA) owns and operates five parking facilities: the Merchant Street surface lot, the Warren Street Garage, the South Broad and Front Street Garage, the Lafayette Yard Parking Garage and the Liberty Commons Parking Facility.
