Just minutes from Trenton, Grounds For Sculpture is a world of its own. Over 270 large-scale sculptures dot its 42 acres of manicured grounds, which are patrolled by regal peacocks. Sculptures reveal themselves at every turn in the undulating landscape, among woods, ponds, and in mysterious cul-de-sacs. Grounds For Sculpture is located on part of the site of the former New Jersey State Fairgrounds, where auto races at the Trenton Speedway and fairs were held starting in the early 20thcentury. This history is still evident in the Domestic Arts and Motor Exhibits buildings, fair buildings which currently house exhibition and artist studio space. In addition to its permanent collection of sculpture, the Grounds also has a year-round schedule of art exhibitions, lectures, workshops, concerts and other events. The elegant Rat's restaurant, named after the character Ratty in Kenneth Grahame's book The Wind in the Willows is also located at Grounds For Sculpture.
