“O'Donovan created the life-size bronze portrait sculptures at the base of the monument. On the left is Private John Russell, 14th Regiment, Massachusetts; on the right is Private Blair McClenachan, Philadelphia Troop of Light Horse. Both men fought in the battle of Trenton. O’Donovan also created a bronze likeness of George Washington that was placed on top of the monument.” – Art and Architecture in New Jersey
